Community Supports

Community Supports (Day Habilitation)

Community Supports provide opportunities to individuals with developmental disabilities to develop personal competencies and become fully included within the community in which they reside.

Services:

  • Support individuals in developing independence in a variety of areas, including social, communication, health, self-help, vocational, and self-advocacy.
  • Develop skills through participation through participation in a variety of community-based activities that may include:
    • Leisure activities
    • Volunteer work
    • Physical fitness activities
    • Self-help groups
    • Clubs or associations
    • Self-advocacy

Eligibility:

  • Eligibility for services is determined by the Division of Senior and Disabilities Services (DSDS) according to AS 47.80.900(7) (A-E).

Sources of Funding:

  • Medicaid Home and Community Based Waiver (HCBW)
  • Private Pay

Cost:

  • Costs of services paid for through Medicaid HCBW.  Individuals must first be selected or “drawn” for a Medicaid HCBW by the State of Alaska, DSDS.
